That was quite a long history. Not surprisingly, they included Mana Khemia into the mix. Although I have not finished Totori and not started on the games after that, I am anticipating Atelier Sophie for some reason.

Yuki is not a retard as some people believed

There are people complaining about Yuki, MC of Gakkou Gurashi, being a retard and how they wish she will die in the future. They dubbed her as an annoying character who makes no contribution to the team.

To her defense, even in her denial mode, she knows how hard the others are working hard to protect her. She knows how Yuuri’s suffering mentally from trying to get things together. She knows how Kurumi keeps their area safe from the zombies regularly. She knows how Miki is trying her best to support them with her own methods. All these was done to protect her heart from breaking further, while giving the 3 of them a reason why they have to continue to survive.

It was because of all their actions she was able to carry the team during their times of despair later in the series. She won’t remain in that state for long, but once she woke up she will act as the delusional Yuki while helping the team move forward. Adding to that is her uncanny intuition and perception, which she used subconsciously in her delusional state and actively once she woke up.

This here is the scene of when Yuuri suffered a mental breakdown and Yuki decided to rescue Miki and Kurumi herself, even if the odds were against them.

9 years on and I’m still undecided on the theme of my blog

Yes, 9 years. Looking back on all the old posts, I first started blogging at the tender age of 18. Not to mention it was right on my birthday as well. I started off with blogspot and most, if not all, of my posts were similar to your average teen’s blog, detailing every single thing that happen in one’s life. It was all the rage that time I guess hence you can see all the links of my friends’ blogs on the right.

As I grew up, I chance upon multiple blogs giving reviews on things they watch, play or even bought. At that time I thought to myself, “Hey, maybe I should write reviews for anime, manga, games and light novels!” I often have the desire to share my thoughts but other than my friends (who often stick to their own fandom), I wanted people to know there are many interesting things out there that they (or people online) could have missed. The links on the right with the rectangular-ish pictures were other blogs who gave reviews and/or ones I find interesting. Needless to say, some are still alive and kicking, some are dead (like my blog) and some vanish into the deep abyss of the world wide web.

I do enjoy writing those reviews and I am pretty glad some people do indeed pick up the anime or light novel or whatnot after they read them. Unlike many blogs which specializes in reviews, mine was churned out at a snail’s pace as language wasn’t really my strong point. That and laziness was the key as writing a review would take up quite a bit of time and after a long period, I kind of stopped doing that altogether.

With that said, I feel that it is such a waste to let my blog die (even if I am unsure if there are people even reading this). I guess instead of long reviews, I’d turn this blog to give people snippets of information and to also share my thoughts on various things. I do have a facebook page for that actually but somehow it became a generic anime page that churns out pictures everyday. That has to change. This blog too, might receive a small makeover. Whether i am lazy in updating here or not, we will see how it goes. I am already procrastinating a lot as well in completing the first volume of my own light novel. I should really discipline myself yes?

So it begins, yet again. Yaranakya has written a splendid post on his impressions on the first episode. Helpful for those who has watched it but might be confused by the amount of information bombarded at you, especially so since season 1 was way, way back.

So begins the reunion with the much beloved cast of one of the craziest mahjong anime out there. I hope to cover this series regularly, with my impressions coming out later into the week for scheduling reasons.

Did I like the opening episode? You bet I did.

Some people were dissatisfied with the lack of mahjong battles in the first episode, but personally I was actually impressed with how the few seconds of mahjong action in the episode were used to provide basic characterization for the characters and teams involved. Hacchan (loli miko) makes someone drop below zero without going into the captains’ round through some obviously occult combination, and we immediately know she’s one to look out for in the coming matches. Awai goes double riichi –> kan –> dora 4, and we know it is not just “luck”.

Eight new licenses for Seven Seas

The news is about a week old but Seven Seas has acquired several new licenses which includes the Strike Witches franchise.

I have yet to write a review for the series but one thing’s for sure, if not for Girls und Panzer, I would not have given the anime series a second glance. Overall, I did not regret picking it up (though the girls not wearing pants/skirts over their underwear still felt weird to me). Strike Witches: 1937 Fuso Sea Incident (Story by Humikane Shimada, art by Ningen)

Strike Witches is a highly popular dieselpunk franchise that spans manga, light novels, video games and anime. The series reimagines World War II as a confrontation between the allied human forces and an invading alien menace. Most of the battles featured are fictional recreations of actual World War II dogfights, but in this alternate history, teen girls with advanced weaponry and magic powers perform aerial combat against alien aircraft.

In addition to the ongoing Strike Witches manga series, the franchise has been adapted into light novels, as well as several TV anime which aired in Japan and are available in North America from FUNimation. In 2012, an animated feature film was released entitled Strike Witches: The Movie.

It has been nearly 20 years since the last Great War, and while smaller skirmishes are still taking place over the world, peace has been mostly achieved. In 1937, Fuso Empire, Sakamoto Mio is about to join in on the fierce battle against the Neuroi alien invaders. She’ll have to prove herself amongst all the other cadets if she’s to become a full-fledged Witch. Mio will soon have that chance, as a long, brutal war against the Neuroi awaits her and her fellow Witches.

Volume 1 of Strike Witches: 1937 Fuso Sea Incident will be released in August, 2014. Volume 2 will be released in October, 2014.

 

Strike Witches: The Sky That Connects Us (Story by Humikane Shimada, art by Shin Kyougoku)

The year is 1944, and the battle against the Neuroi has ended…for now. The 501st Joint Fighter Wing, “Strike Witches,” has accomplished its goal of protecting Britannia from the alien invaders, and riding their presence in the embattled Gallia. Now that the battle is over, they’ve been disbanded, and many of the Witches have decided to go their own ways.

From the war-stricken Gallia to the deserts of Africa, this story follows the girls of the 501st as they rebuild, relax and unwind from their trials of the previous war. Newnar’s thoughts on Log Horizon

Log Horizon really is amazing. It’s amazing how deeply a simple anime bring out the complex effects of a game, of which the most interesting and attention-requiring aspect lies not in the game itself, but once attracted enough people, lies in the community that the game creates.

How can we as humans, if given a completely fair world by nature, shape the world into a place where everyone is able to maximize their happiness? How do we craft human/non-human rights, general constitutional laws, public policies, ethics, in a place that no natural laws can touch, no sense of nationality exists and where there has been no such things before in the past? Can humans consistently make the right decisions to not exploit or harm one another and live in harmony and fair competition, without the risk of oppressive rulers and possibly doubtful legislation and legislative practices like nowadays in the real world? If yes, what is the right way to do it?

Something to ponder about. This is basically the essence of the series after 10 episodes in. It might have a slightly confusing start in the beginning due to the number of characters introduced at the same time but it’s really bringing out one of the main essentials of MMORPGs, which is the community itself and how it is molded or reflected by real world standards.

On a side note, we can leave those delusional fans of SAO who called Log Horizon a rip-off and claimed to have ‘read’ the Log Horizon novels to justify that Log Horizon characters and stories are ‘weak’. Granted, I like the ALO arc but SAO did not addressed these issues since it’s more concentrated on the love drama between Kirito and Asuna.

It’s finally over

If all is well, yesterday’s evening paper would be my last paper as an undergraduate. The holidays are here and with the number of backlogs I have piled up for everything, it’s difficult to choose a series to start. Then again, cleaning my room takes precedence and I will start a seperate blog and attempt to write a web novel or two there. Granted, my command of the English language is poor but hopefully, in writing those web novels, it’ll improve.

Why I gave up on cosplay

I have never cosplayed before but I was a helper for a cosplay team for the past 2 AFA. There were many nice people that I met in the two events (truly nice people) but at the other side of the coin, there are those who are simply ugly in character as well.

For many current cosplayers, her post might sound biased but it is still worth something to ponder about.

Wanna Be The Strongest ep5 & 6: the crabs return, in force!

My sentiments exactly. Never have I thought I would hate a move so much, not because it is painful but more of an overdose of the same move 6 episodes in.

I like how he wrote his impressions for the series and I have to agree I was a little disappointed they concentrated on submissions for the pro-wrestling part. We all know wrestling is commonly known for it’s entertainment value thus I would have expected to see a little bit of things done in WWF/WWE at the very least.

First few episodes was painful since Sakura was not going anywhere at all plus I’m surprised she did not even attempt to think of a way to counter the Boston Crab. Episode 6 was entertaining enough and I’ll still continue watching the show since I have no idea where this series is headed to currently.

Never thought I’d end up writing this many words about this show.  Hell, I should throw a party just for surviving six episodes of bad wrestling and crotch shots.
